Pets, like children have to be taught what is right and wrong. Not only for your benefit, but also for their well being.
I will give you an example: when my cat was still a kitten, she loved jumping on the top of the understairs door as soon as somebody would open it. Considering that we used to store vaccum cleaner there, she was happily jumping on top of the door as soon as someone was approaching the door.
I took her off it a great numer of times, always repeating to her, she should not be doing it. Finally, she jumped once on the door, when I was opening and closing it a few times and got her paw trapped. I was so horrified, that I rushed with her to our local vet, who examined her paw, took xrays and luckily admitted it wasn't broken. Still, she limped for a few days and to this day she never comes anywhere near this door. She learnt the hard way, but another time, when she started to pull the curtains, she was immediately told to stop. Every time she tried to pull any net, we firmly said "no" and made a noise to alert her to the fact that we were watching. She still tries to pull nets every once in a while, but as soon as we say: " Zuzia, we can see what you are doing" in a firm and raised voice, she quits and quickly goes onto a bed.
